Here Fishie, Fishie, Fishie!

I adore this fish plaque!

It's attributed to Britt-Louise Sundell for Gustavsberg.

I must have it for myself.

Bring on the Stig

A while ago, I mentioned the Orla Kiely style mugs used by the elder Bradys (of the Brady Bunch).

A comment from Blue Home put me on to the Bersa pattern by Swedish designer, Stig Lindberg. Love it.

The Bersa pattern seems to have been put on any kind of kitchen ceramic and even enamelware. These are my favourite - any of which I'd be delighted to give a good home

A Mini Kombi?

Motor Haus on flickr

Today, Dave and I went to a nearby garden/aquatic centre to buy some more fish. On the way out, we saw a funky little mini campervan! It looked almost as if the front and back were squished together, cartoon style, to fit into a parking space.

Campervan, Kombi Van, Micro Bus - known by various names around the world, this motor design from the mid century is classic but I had never seen one like this. So, when I got home, I went online to investigate and found that information on this mini version is pretty thin on the ground. According to McCafferty's Pub, Volkswagen themselves know nothing about this vehicle. If anyone out there is any the wiser, please let me know.
I managed to find the above images for demonstration purposes, but the one I saw was green.
Here's a vintage VW ad for size/dimension comparison:

The Power of Orange

A couple of days ago, my new vintage top arrived in the mail from jessjamesjake. I had been thinking that I really wanted an orange top and this certainly fit the bill. I don't usually buy vintage clothes but this slice of the sixties, I couldn't resist.

It is described as Vermillion Red, but I prefer to think of it as bright orange. I wore it today and it made me feel strong and happy. Weird but great how colours can do that to you (this isn't me in the picture, by the way).

Jess has some cool vintage stuff in her etsy shop and has shown me fabulous customer service. My order came all the way from upstate New York to England in a week! Thanks Jess!

Scandi-lous

I finally have my Componibili!

It looks so shiny and white. Now, I simply must have a lovely red Scandiphone to sit upon it.

The Scandiphone is a replica of the Ericofon designed in the 1950s. The original Ericofon had a rotary dial but introduced a push button version in 1967. The Scandiphone features push button dialling and works with modern BT lines.

They sell for around £35 but I've spotted them on amazon for about £30 - a bargain, really. I'm getting a tad fed up of the batteries going flat in our cordless phones so this groovy phone would be functional AND funky.

I Predicta Riot

15:11:00 MoonDoggie 5 Comments

I first saw this amazing computer last month but I didn't blog about it because so many others had. However, as I'm still drawn to it and this is a blog about MY inspirations after all, I decided to post it here now. At the very least to borrow some of its beauty for my blog.

This computer doesn't actually exist - it is a 3D rendering of a design concept. It was designed by Dave Schultz based on the Philco Predicta TVs of the 50s and 60s. It's curvy, it's orange and I want it. Luckily it doesn't exist though, because I probably wouldn't be able to afford one anyway.

I love the design of things in the 50s and 60s but I also love the functionality of modern equipment. That's a problem a lot of us vintage lovers probably have. We want the look of the past but we want the features of today. That may not be true for all of us, but as you'd have to be using some form of modern technology to read this, you probably know what I'm talking about.

There's a lot of retro looking radios out there but I'm REALLY glad to hear that you can still buy a brand new Predicta TV with yesterday's style. You can read all about them on their site.

Which one would you have?

Pod Life

17:43:00 MoonDoggie 2 Comments

A glimpse of my ideal home... If it weren't for the decay... and the ruin... and the fact they have never been inhabitable.

On the north coast of Taiwan, there is an abandoned resort complex that looked like it could have been amazing.

Information about this resort varies (in english) but the legend goes that several people died whilst constructing these pods.
Apparently there were problems with the building materials (the word plastic was mentioned) and the project was abandoned. The locals believe it to be haunted and it certainly does look spooky in its derelict state, but how I wish it had worked out.

Sadly, they were torn down a year ago. I wish I was an architect so I could redesign these things and live in one myself. Even in their derelict state, they are still things of beauty and awe. Surely there's still a market for this kind of thing?

Find out more here and more pics here and here.

The last picture gives me a taste of what the view could have been like from my window... sitting on my saarinen furniture... thinking about taking a dip in the pool...

Snow? What Snow?

As the snowflakes continue to fall outside and I'm effectively snowed, in this picture has made me feel that little bit warmer. Love it.

I found this image through Welcome Home. More bright and sunny pictures by the photographer, Slim Aarons, can be seen on Everyone is an Art Director.

A Twist of Orange

19:49:00 MoonDoggie 3 Comments

I happened to watch 'The Holiday' over Christmas and besides some other mid century style spotted here and there, I kept catching fleeting glimpses of an orange movie poster in Cameron Diaz's character's home. I really liked the look of it and became distracted trying to see what it was. The movie was Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo'.

To me, this poster oozes cool mid century graphic design and it's orange! Orange has been a favourite colour of mine for some time but I've been even more drawn to it lately.

Here is how the poster is seen in the movie (top right corner):

It seems to be available in different shades of orange but I think I would be happy with any . I would use a chunky white frame like the RIBBA frame from ikea to match the one I used for my woodstock poster.

I used the Eframe site to see how it would look:

I think a purchase is on the cards...

Sanna Annukka

A little while ago, I blogged about some fantastic tea towels designed for Marimekko by Sanna Annukka. Well, she now has her own website and online shop where, among other things, you can buy the lovely print above (which would look great in my hallway) or the funky wooden birds below (which remind me of those gorgeous Carlton Ware birds I also blogged about not so long ago).
This information is probably not new to you as I've already seen this information on other blogs but after digging around on her new site, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the Keane album cover for 'Under the Iron Sea' was designed by Sanna! Apparently, she sold a print to a friend of the band who then commissioned her for the album artwork - how fortuitous!
Sanna also designed this Marks & Spencer's biscuit tin:
I'm sure I've seen that biscuit tin around. I'm definitely going to have a look and see if they still sell them in these tins and snap one up!
I've not seen these tins though. They were for Finnish coffee brand, Paulig. Anyone from Finland want to send me a tin? :)

I recommend taking a look at her site - http://www.sanna-annukka.com/ where you can see some more of her inspiring designs. A talented lady, indeed.
