MoonDoggie Goes Supersize

19:39:00 MoonDoggie 3 Comments

I settled down to watch 'The Supersizers Eat... The Fifties' last night but unfortunately due to Wimbledon, the show got sidelined. I thought I'd give UK readers a heads up that the show will be aired next Monday at 9pm.
To those who don't know the show, Giles Coren and Sue Perkins dress the part and eat their way through specific time periods. Although I'm not overly interested in the food they eat, the historical aspect of the show is interesting and the 'presenters' make me laugh. Next week in particular, I'm interested in what mid-century 'feasts of the eye' they may bestow upon me.
Watch it if you can!

Just a quick post to encourage everyone to go and check out my first ever treasury on Etsy.

It's bright and colourful and features the party snack wheel and bowls from my last post as well as some other pretty things. Also featured is this gorgeous elephant zip pouch from seabreezestudio.

Hope you like it!

Party Of Colour

08:56:00 MoonDoggie 6 Comments

I've been spending a lot of time over at Etsy lately and while doing my regular vintage trawl, I came across this fabulous 'cocktail party wheel':

It's so much fun just to look at it. Imagine going to a party and selecting your snacks from that! You can find this groovy thing at moonula's Etsy shop. But I'd hurry up if I were you - I may just cave in and buy it!

Staying on the party theme, I've also had to resist buying these colourful aluminium bowls from birdie1's Etsy shop:

Just the kind of thing I'd love to see at a party - oh, so festive! :)

Ebbo's Tiki Art Treasured

16:24:00 MoonDoggie 1 Comments

'Anger', Ebbo's new tiki painting has been featured in an Etsy Treasury!
I'd be angry too if I was on fire. :)

I meant to blog about it before now as I had shown you a teaser a few weeks ago.

The title of the treasury is "As I Sink into the Depths {of madness...}", and can be viewed here.

I am so pleased to be in another, so soon after our first treasury appearance (a couple of days ago). Thankyou very much to TheFamiLeeJewels for including us.

It's swell!

20:09:00 MoonDoggie 6 Comments

I want so badly to buy this tape!

I even had a couple rolls in my etsy cart but I realised that this needless spending of mine needs to cease (and I was worried about being stung with customs charges again). Maybe if I share my all my finds with you guys it will stop me from buying stuff. Here goes... buy some from the tapeswell etsy shop or website.

If anyone has found a uk stockist for tapeswell, please let me know - I'll regard it as destiny :)

Vintage Click - Happy Father's Day!

11:08:00 MoonDoggie 1 Comments

In honour of Father's Day, I submit two vintage photographs for your viewing pleasure.

Although it is not Father's Day where my dad lives in Australia, it IS here in England and I'm probably likely to forget about it in September. So for my first appearance in this blog, here is my father with ME!

I remember the day this was taken.
Somewhere behind where we are sitting in this photograph, was a large trampoline. I had queued for what seemed like an eternity to have a go (in reality, probably a minute or two), when I recall some bully girl tried to intimidate me into getting off. I think I stood (or bounced) my ground but it is also just as likely that I ran off crying.

The second photo is of Ebbo with his father. They look like they're having a very meaningful conversation but Dave can't remember anything about it. It looks adorable though.

Happy Father's Day to all dads out there!

Etsy Shop Feature - Atomic Lodge

21:50:00 MoonDoggie 8 Comments

I've just come across an etsy shop tonight with some wonderful mid century style art. Atomic Lodge is an etsy shop run by husband and wife team SuZanna Anna and Mykl Stanley. The shapes and colours are very pleasing to the eye.

They say their house is called 'Atomic Lodge' "because its a really funky mid century home which is modern but rustic at the same time". If their house is the one featured in these pictures, I am insanely jealous.

Check them out - you'll be pleased that you did. :)

Not So Swinging Carnaby

19:53:00 MoonDoggie 6 Comments

Well, my dear bloggers, I went to 'Swinging Carnaby' on Sunday but unfortunately it was not as 'swinging' as I had expected. Initial hopes were high as we rounded the corner and encountered rows of scooters and Union Jack bunting.

As we walked on, however, I noticed that was about all there was except for a stage where the band was being set up. I didn't realise that most of the shops didn't open til 12 so it was a bit dead. We went into a fabulous vintage store called 'Circus' where I was very proud to be able to recognise some staffordshire pottery pieces by their design. Next door was a small vintage clothing store and there were various other retro styled clothing shops in the area.

We had overheard that things would kick off at 1pm. A group of girls, who seemed to be from some kind of dance club, did a short dance using some 60s moves. They looked great in their vintage dresses, white boots and false eyelashes.

After this I expected the band to play as they were all on stage watching but alas they just disappeared 'backstage' again and the girls dispersed. I'm not sure if they performed again later. After much more instrument checking nothing appeared to be happening so we checked out some more shops and sights of Carnaby Street.

We had been told the band would play at 1:30 but by 2:00 we had had enough of waiting and left to go to the Hard Rock Cafe. The one on Park Lane is the original and it just so happens that they were celebrating their 38th birthday. All the staff were dressed up in '70s' gear and we had a chat with the manager about the history of the place - interesting indeed. A few cocktails later, I rolled out of there and into Green Park across the road. Some more pics...

Police cadets on parade (I think)
So, despite my Carnaby disappointment, we ended up having a lovely day.

Ghosts of Florida Past

20:20:00 MoonDoggie 4 Comments

One of my fellow twitterers, birdhousebooks tweeted about a website called 'Florida's Lost Tourist Attractions'. Some of the highlights for me include,

The Upside-Down House;

Top O' The Strip Observation Tower;

Tragedy in US History Museum;

and my personal favourite Tiki Gardens.

At one time "the complex would encompass several gift shops, the south seas themed gardens
complete with exotic birds and monkeys, and Trader Frank's Restaurant, on more than twelve acres
".

Sadly, like so many tiki themed places, it was eventually torn down and turned into a parking lot.

But what really intrigued me was a reference in the Never Never Lands section to a place that was never built... Interama.

"It was a great billboard. Big and colorful, with artwork depicting the wonders to come, it stood watch over the vacant land near Biscayne Bay for years. An amazing new theme park, Interama, would shortly be built on this very site -- the sign said so".
It is this introduction that fascinated me. I have tried to find an image of this billboard but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has this image or a link for me, I would be very grateful (image on left found at dwntwnr).

The Historical Museum of Southern Florida held an exhibition about this theme park that never was. More information can be found on this exhibition here.

More images of what Interama could have been can be seen on miamiartzine.com.

Ebay Finds V

23:23:00 MoonDoggie 3 Comments

I'm on the lookout for a new/vintage desk lamp. Here are a few I like from ebay but I am a bit hesitant to buy vintage electrical items.
At least it helps me narrow down what I want and don't want.
