A Spoonful of Flowers...

23:10:00 MoonDoggie 1 Comments

I can't remember where I first heard of Spoonflower, but now that I have I'm determined to design and print something of my own. It's such a brilliant idea! In case you don't know, Spoonflower is a new site/service which allows you to upload your own fabric designs and have it printed.

I am very particular about my choice in patterns - they have to be 'just right' - which is why I tend to stay away from them altogether. Now, I can get exactly what I want, I can broaden my decorating scope - the only limit is me!

I've spent most of the day practicing/learning how to use Illustrator. It seems that all the ideas I have involve learning complicated procedures and I'm still trying to get my head around the basic ones. I'll let you all know if I upload anything interesting - until then there is some really good stuff from other people up there. Check it out.

Was about to call it a day, when I came across this brilliant first aid box!

It will come in so useful and make the top of my fridge a lot more bearable. As much as I hate it, we have precious little room for storage so all our 'mediciney' type things seem to go up there (as well as all the takeaway leaflets and other necessary junk).

Hmmm... I think I've just talked myself into a sale.

Light Fever!

I've been looking for some ceiling light ideas. Here are some cool looking shades - I LOVE the rocket one but don't think it'd really suit the decor I have in mind.

I'm on the lookout for cool bedside lamps now - at least I don't have to wait for a new house for them.

Had to share these fabulous chairs...

These stackable chairs from hive modern are called 'Supernatural' - they look fantastic but I'm not sure how comfortable they'd be.

Ashes to ashes, funk to funky...

I happened to be watching "A Hard Day's Night" the other day (on the lookout for some genuine 60s inspiration), and saw a glimpse of a standing ashtray in the hotel room scene.

I remembered seeing loads of them in the past. It must have been from childhood because I've been searching for something just like it and there doesn't seem to be too many around these days.

I found the orange vintage one on ebay, but it isn't quite what I was after.

The middle one is alright but the stand is deliberately bendy! The new chrome one is a bit more like it except I'd prefer it with some colour. If anyone sees anything that could fit the bill, please let me know!

Now these things are just funky - in a good way, of course!
If only I had a garden to put them in...

On the way back from our Midlands trip, we pulled into IKEA (much to Dave's chagrin) to pick up the gorgeous FREDERIKA fabric I mentioned in a previous post. They didn't have any!!!
I was/am so disappointed. They had the other choices in that line and said they'd only order more in when all the others had sold.
Luckily, I'd spotted some BUSIG glasses and some funky TRIPP tins (pictured below). I got some in the blue pictured here and in orange.

If Only...

After a bit of surfing (and dreaming), I found this chair from the 'couch potato company'.
*EDIT - Have since found out that its called the tulip chair and I'm probably the last person to know this ;) *

They would be so perfect if it wasn't for the price tag - £770 each!

The designer, Eero Saarinen, is quoted as saying of his 1956 design, “The undercarriage of chairs and tables in a typical interior makes an ugly, confusing, unrestful world. I wanted to clear up the slum of legs. I wanted to make the chair all one thing again”.

I couldn't agree more, Eero ol' pal!

How amazing is this aquarium?? Pretty, very, if you ask me. It's from the 'biOrb Life Collection' by Reef One.It apparently has some led lighting thing which has an automatic 24 hour cycle including a natural gradual sunrise, sunset and blue moonlight.
Available in red, white and black - loving it.

Hot Doggie Dining

I'm considering this kind of style chair and dining table (from IKEA) for my eating area, although it may still be a bit pricey for me.
I fancy the JAKOB chairs with coloured pads, perhaps a lime green - which seems to be my colour of the moment. I also think it needs some colour to spice it up a bit - which I've tried to illustrate by including the dodgy photoshop touch up.

Also, the DOCKSTA table seems a bit flimsy for the price, but it's the kind of style I'm after right now so let me know if you see anything similar!

The Beginning is the End...

Well, I'm not sure where I'm gonna be going with this blog but I'm currently really interested in home decor as I'm looking to buy a new house very soon.

Part of me feels foolish as we're still waiting on a piece of paper that says we're allowed to proceed and until then I shouldn't really be getting my hopes up. But hey, a gal can dream can't she?

I'm especially interested in mid century/modern design. I'm aware that the term modern can be confusing for the 'retro' look I'm into but that's what all the kids are calling it these days.

I suppose I'll kick this off by posting a bit of my current inspiration...

It's sleek, minimal and beautiful. It's also too expensive for me at the moment... we'll see....

In the meantime, I've began collecting for my British mod theme and found some real bargains in Matalan yesterday. A Union Jack door mat and a mod circle magnetic board.

I've also finally seen some fabric that I should be able to get my hands on... ikea! God, I love that place. Dave, however, seems to regard it as his own personal hell so I need to plan very carefully for my next trip there.

I also lurve this coffee table...
